MYOCARDIAL PERFUSION IMAGING (NUCLEAR STRESS TEST)

MYOCARDIAL PERFUSION IMAGING (NUCLEAR STRESS TEST)

Indications: This comprehensive test is performed to confirm the suspected diagnosis of coronary artery disease. Symptoms including chest pain and shortness of breath are clinical indications that the test should be performed. After injection of a radioisotope, the scan measures heart muscle blood perfusion at rest and during exercise or with a medication called regadenoson.
Multiple Gated Acquisition Scan (MUGA)

Multiple Gated Acquisition Scan (MUGA)

Indications: MUGA is a resting nuclear scan performed to get an accurate assessment of heart pumping function following an injection of radioisotope. It is a widely used test to precisely assess the pumping fraction of the heart in patients with heart failure prior to defibrillator placement and especially in patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy.

Echocardiogram (ECHO)

Echocardiogram (ECHO)

Indications: 2-D Ultrasound images are taken of the entirety of the heart to evaluate its overall function, individual valves, and pressures inside the heart.

Dobutamine Echocardiogram

Dobutamine Echocardiogram

Indications: If a patient is unable to walk on a treadmill, a medication called Dobutamine is used to induce heart activity while ultrasound images are taken on the heart.

Exercise Echocardiogram (Stress Echo)

Exercise Echocardiogram (Stress Echo)

Indications: Ultrasound images of the heart are taken immediately before and after a patient walks on a treadmill in order to accelerate the heart to assess the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart.
